Mr. B & the Books

Ignite your student’s passion for reading through the magic of music! Students will hear and write their own songs inspired by influential stories and poems from iconic authors and poets.

Age Range

Mr. B and the Books is an assembly program that ignites students’ passion for reading through the magic of music. Nate Bogopolsky (Mr. B for short), a certified teacher and performer, will deliver a 50-minute book-focused assembly where students will hear songs inspired by books and poems they have read in class or at home. Songs inspired by iconic authors like Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, Harper Lee and Maya Angelou.

Mr. B has a Masters in Teaching, with a focus Opera and conducting, and will deliver a performance around live looping, Hip-Hop, Pop, Rock, Bluegrass and more. In addition to hearing music inspired by influential stories and poems, your students will help create a new song inspired by a book of your choice!

Incorporating Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Skills, Mr. B and the Books engages students in critical thinking and collaborative work that results in lyrics inspired by curricular literature. Through musical and lyrical expression, students will find connections between literary themes and their own lives and the world around them, leaving the program with a new perspective and a tune in their hearts.

Students will learn about the instruments on stage as well as live looping, beat-boxing and even opera! Through musical forms like call and response, steady beat and 12 bar blues, Mr. B will guide students to co-write a song inspired by the book you choose. Through this basic songwriting instruction, Mr. B will guide the students in a world premiere of their new song and capture the live performance in an audio recording your school will cherish for years to come. Every Mr. B and the Books program is age appropriately tailored for grades K-12.

Choose from a combination of Assemblies or Workshops. Great for Family Nights too!

  • I love the way they took our theme statements and created a rap.  When key statements are set to music in this way, it is easy to recall.  This then can become an "anchor" point to refer to all during the year.

  • The program was an eye-opening experience. Nate was extremely engaging. I was amazed that my students wrote an entire song in only three class periods. It was absolutely one of my favorite days as a teacher. We would love to have him come back!

  • The benefits of your program are innumerable and the interactions with the students were excellent.  Everyone had a great time and all of the student can't wait until we repeat the program again.  Your club members were able to work with and have fun with all of the children and kept their attention focused for the entire event.
