The Dancing Scientist's program called "So You Think You Can Do Science" is a one of a kind show that provides education & entertainment through exciting chemistry demonstrations. The show is designed to inspire young scientists and spark their imagination, and for older audiences, the show also encourages them to explore the possibility of a career in science and stresses the importance of being scientifically literate. There is simply no comparison between reading about science in a textbook and seeing it happen right before your eyes. When it happens right in front of you, you never forget it!
"So You Think you Can Do Science" runs 45 minutes and gets its name from the hit reality show "So You Think You Can Dance." Jeffrey Vinokur's performance incorporates audience participation, upbeat music, occasional jaw-dropping dance moves, and stunning chemistry, and of course drives home an educational message.
In addition to being an entertainer, Vinokur is also a Biochemistry student and an active researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he is involved in studying chemical approaches to treat Cancer.
The Dancing Scientist program covers the topics: Acids & Bases in the Kitchen, Energy, Alternative Energy, Polymers and Light. Explanations are tailored to the age group attending. People of all ages love to see things fizz, pop, change color, explode, etc!
Dancing is incorporated to make the presentation more entertaining, but also serves to dispel the negative stereotypes associated with scientists such as the notion that they are dull, non-social, and simply "not cool." This program dispels those stereotypes because Vinokur is also a hip hop dancer with over 10 million YouTube views, leads a dance crew, and was on America's Got Talent, Season 5! The show even includes a live Hip Hop DJ. Together, this demonstrates that science can be fun, cool, and drives home the message that science allows you to make a difference in the world.
The show can accommodate large audiences of over 400 people and covers topics such as alternative energy, polymers, careers in science, acids & bases, and more. The show is touring nationwide May 16th - June 12th 2011

Jeff was great! He really knew how to relate to our students. We enjoyed having him visit with both of our elementary schools. Jeff is an alumnae at Roberge School. He even shared photos with us. It was wonderful for our students to see what the future can be with hard work and dedication. Jeff made Science FUN!
Our teachers enjoyed his presentation as well! Keep on Dancing!

At the onset of the school year, we had a fire that destroyed a good portion of our science equipment. It has been a difficult year putting our program back together. Your visit, which was filled with high energy and fun facts, made Science come to life again here at George Washington Elementary School. The children are already clamoring for your return next school year!
